🩸 The Bloodwork Numbers Every Man Over 40 Should Know
The Bloodwork Numbers Every Man Over 40 Should Know
If you know me, you know: I don't like needles. 💉
I will dodge the doctor's office and put off getting my blood drawn as long as humanly possible. No shame in admitting it.
But here's the truth I can't dodge: with age, keeping an eye on a few key markers is one of the smartest things you can do, because it tells you whether all this effort in the gym and the kitchen is actually paying off under the hood.
You're putting in the work. Make sure the engine agrees.
The Markers Worth Watching
When you get your next physical, these are the numbers worth paying attention to as a man over 40:
Total & Free Testosterone — the big one for us. It drives muscle, recovery, energy, and drive. Training, sleep, and body composition all influence it, and it influences them right back.
Thyroid (TSH) — your metabolism's thermostat. If it's off, fat loss can feel like pushing a truck uphill no matter how dialed-in you are.
Fasting Glucose & HbA1c — how your body is handling blood sugar. Huge for energy, hunger control, and long-term health.
Lipid Panel (Cholesterol & Triglycerides) — the heart-health scoreboard. These numbers often improve dramatically with fat loss; seeing it in writing is serious motivation.
Vitamin D — quietly involved in everything: hormones, recovery, immunity, mood. And most guys are low.
Now, to be clear 👇
We're your coaches, not your doctors. Your doctor decides what to test and what the results mean for you. Our job is to make sure your training and nutrition work with that picture.
One Thing To Remember
If you talk to your doctor and get your blood work done, share their feedback with your coaching team.
That context lets us fine-tune your program to what's actually happening inside your body, not just what we see in the mirror and on the scale.
The Bottom Line
I'll never love needles. But I love knowing that the work is working.
Once a year, a few vials of blood buy you something priceless: proof and the ability to catch small issues while they're still small. Book the physical. Get the numbers. Send us the feedback.
Keep pushing,
