🚶 Your Body Was Built to Move
Your Body Was Built to Move
I want to clear something up today, because I see it stall guys constantly.
When fat loss slows down, a lot of men think the answer is to add an hour of cardio to an already packed day🏃. Wake up earlier, grind out miles on the treadmill, suffer more. And listen — you know how we feel about that: we don't want to lean on heavy cardio to get you results. That's not the lever.
Here's the real one, and it's hiding in plain sight: your body was built to move all day🚶♂️➡️, not to sit for fourteen hours and then "exercise" for one.
The goal isn't to block off an hour to walk. The goal is to stop sitting still all day. Motion is the lever most men over 40 leave on the table.
The Lever Has a Name: NEAT
Everything you burn outside of formal workouts has a name — NEAT, the energy you spend just living. Standing, pacing, carrying things, fidgeting, taking the stairs. For a lot of guys, NEAT is a bigger daily fat-loss driver than the workout itself, because it's happening all day long instead of for 45 minutes.
And here's the part that matters at our age: the more you move, the more you nudge up your RMR — the calories your body burns just running the engine. An active body runs a hotter engine🏎️. A body that sits all day powers down.
What This Actually Looks Like
This isn't a cardio plan. It's a live-more-active plan. Little decisions, stacked all day:
Park further out and walk to the door instead of hunting for the closest spot 🅿️.
Take the stairs instead of the elevator — every single time it's an option.
Have an active job? Lean into it. Carrying, lifting, being on your feet all count.
Do the yard work. Mow, haul, dig — that's not a chore, that's free progress.
Walk to your destination when it's close enough instead of driving the two minutes.
None of that requires a gym, a change of clothes, or an extra hour you don't have. It's just choosing motion over stillness, over and over🚴♂️.
To Be Clear About Cardio
I'm not anti-walking. If you've got the time and you enjoy a good walk or some cardio — go for it; it's great for you. The point isn't that movement is bad. The point is you don't need to carve out a dedicated hour to win here. If life is already full, stop stressing about the missing cardio block and just refuse to sit still. That alone moves the needle📈.
The Bottom Line
You don't have to punish yourself with more cardio to break a stall. You have to move like a human who was built to move⛹️♂️ — park far, take the stairs, do the yard, stay on your feet. Stack those all day, and your engine runs hotter without a single extra minute in the gym.
Not sure where your daily movement actually stands? Mention it to your coaching team at your next check-in — it's one of the easiest wins we can dial in together.
